Successful test flight of a drone equipped with a hybrid engine power unit

Yamabiko Corporation (“the Company”) carried out a successful test flight of a drone equipped with a hybrid engine power unit developed by the Company. With the cooperation of Taya Engineering Co., Ltd., (head office: Yokohama, Kanagawa. President: Yasutada Taya), the drone succeeded in a continuous flight over the town of Samukawa in Kanagawa.

The hybrid engine power unit for this drone was designed as a new horizontally-opposed two-cylinder engine for drones based on the two-stroke engine used in the Company's chainsaws, trimmers and brushcutters. As a power unit for drones, we made it compact and lightweight with high output and low vibration. In addition to reducing its environmental impact as with conventional products, our intention is to mass produce it in our domestic factories using the production technology we have cultivated to date.

Going forward, through further efforts to create lighter, higher output and higher efficiency engines, we intend to address challenges facing drones such as longer flying times and greater payloads (maximum carrying capacity). We will also strengthen our structures for practical application through collaborations with various partner companies and explore the potential of drones to solve social issues such as saving labor and personnel and advancing smart transformations in the greying agriculture and forestry industries as well as the distribution of goods to remote areas like mountainous regions and outlying islands.
